VASTU
FAQ
1)
Is Vastu related to Religion and Astrology
Vastu
operates on the principles of Nature i.e. the movement of the Sun, the
magnetic flux, Far Infra—Red Rays, Negative Ions and so many other
scientific details. Therefore one should view Vastu as a separate science
and not mix religion or astrology.
2)
The suggestions and predictions given are not uniform
This
is because there are several schools of Vastu with their own variations.
For this, we should try to understand the scientific reasons behind the
suggestions and use whichever is logical and practical.
3)
Vastu has superstitious beliefs
It
is not Vastu that has superstitions. It is some of the Vastu consultants
who mix superstitions as per their whims and fancies. Therefore we should
only blame this small segment of pseudo Vastu consultants and not the
subject.
4)
Does Vastu have any scientific backing ?
Yes.
For example, Vastu suggest openings in the east. This is because, in the
early morning rays of the sun it is said that there are plenty of vitamins
and beneficial Far Infra-Red Rays and other beneficial energies.
5)
Is Vastu applicable in today’s world ?
Truth
is always truth. Today, we find that certain developments in life have
distorted the harmony of the world. Priorities have changed and people
live in constant stress. Under these circumstances Vastu is one of the
factors which can help in restoring the harmony in our lives.
6)
Is Vastu predictive in nature?
No.
Vastu is only suggestive in nature. Take for example the habit of smoking.
Science and doctors say that smoking is definitely a health hazard. But,
there are so many smokers in this world who still enjoy good health. Therefore,
Vastu or Fengshui would only suggest that a particular problem might arise
and cannot say that the said problem will definitely occur.
7)
As per Vastu what should be the type and shape of the plot?
The
shape shall always be either square or rectangle only. Any other shape
is considered inauspicious. Also the plot should he raised in the west
and the south with southwest being the highest point. And, the north and
east should be low with northeast being the lowest point.
8)
Which direction should a plot face?
Any
plot should face one of the four cardinal directions only i.e. east, west,
north and south. If the plot is not properly oriented or if there is tilt
in the property it can be corrected. But, if the building is not oriented
properly, it is considered as a big Vastu Dosha.
9)
What do you mean by proper orientation?
It
means that the building should face the proper east, west, south or north
only.
10)
How can one find the correct orientation?
It
can be done with a good quality field compass. But not everybody can use
it correctly. One has to have lot of experience to use it effectively.
11)
What should be the positions of the various rooms?
Master
Bedroom - Southwest
Children’s Bedroom - West
Guest Room Northwest
Kitchen - Southeast (cooking should be done
facing the east). As as alternative,
northwest is allowed.
Entrance - North of Northeast, East of Northeast
South of Southeast, West of Northwest
Pooja - Northeast or the Brahmasthana (centre)
Store - Northwest
Toilets - Northwest.
Wells and bore wells - North of Northeast, East of Northeast,
North (slightly towards Northeast)
Overhead tank - Southwest
12) How important are the Panchabhootas in Vastu?
Northeast
is ruled by Water, Southeast by Agni, Southwest by Earth, Northwest by
Vayu and the Centre by Akash. To avoid major Vastu Doshas, the activity
and placement of rooms should match the Panchabhoota that rules that zone.

FENG
SHUI FAQ
1)
What are the different schools of Fengshui
Feng Shui has been around for thousands of years, and over many centuries
different schools of Feng Shui have developed. Each school has a slightly
different approach to the subject, although the basic principles are the
same. The following sections outline the three main schools of Feng Shui:
Form school
This school focuses on the landscape contours, along with the shapes of
hills and watercourses. The main concerns within the Form School are to
find auspicious landforms, called the Tiger and the Dragon. These are
found by looking at the contours of the hills surrounding a site, and
determining whether their layout will bring good or bad luck.
Compass school
This style of Feng Shui uses the Eight Trigrams of the I Ching and relates
them to the eight points of the Compass. These are laid out to form the
eight-sided Pa Kua which is used to interpret the Auspicious and Inauspicious
locations for Buildings, House Floor Plans and Room Layouts.
Black hat sect school
This is a modern version of Feng Shui developed in the USA as a hybrid
of Tibetan Buddhism, Taoism and traditional Feng Shui. In this school
a Pa Kua (often called the Ba Gua) is used, but it is based on the direction
of the Front Door, rather than the Compass directions. The House or Room
is divided into eight sectors, each one having a bearing on an aspect
of life that might need enhancing.
A Feng Shui consultant might specialize in one of the styles or might
use a combination of all.
2)
What are Shar energies?
These
are also called as Poisonous Arrows. It is the equalant of Veedhi Shoola
of Vastu. These are energies directed by a sharp object which will make
the energy to travel in a straight line and if anyone sits or sleeps in
line with this energy it is considered harmful.
3)
Are they any good and bad directions for every house?
Yes,
as the East-West system of Fengshui, every house has four good directions
and four bad directions depending on the front and the rear direction
of the house.
4)
Does every person also have four good and four bad directions?
Yes.
Depending on the year, the month and the sex of the individual there will
be four good directions and four bad directions. How to use these directions
for one’s betterment is the quintessence of the classical East-West
system Fengshui.
5)
Can Vastu and Fengshui be combined?
On
the outset it would look as though it is very difficult. But anyone with
proper understanding of both the subjects would be able to combine these
subjects without much problems.
6)
For a house with Vastu defects can Fengshui be used to alter the energy
pattern within the house?
Yes.
This is the greatest advantage of Fengshui. These days apartments do have
a few Vastu defects and these defects can be handled using Fengshui. But
to do this the consultant should have a fair amount of knowledge on both
the subjects.
7)
Is Fengshui applicable in India?
It
is applicable and our past experience says that Fengshui does work pretty
well in India.
8)
Is Space Clearing a part of Vastu or Fengshui?
It
is a separate subject. To make Fengshui or Vastu work faster or better,
Space Clearing should also be done. Space clearing is a very Divine art
that teaches you to invite the Divine Forces into your home. Many times
Space Clearing alone has given the desired results.
9)
What are the traditional remedial products of Fengshui?
There
are only five remedial products as per original Fengshui. They are fire
(candle, lamp etc), earthen products (crystals, ceramic, terra cotta etc),
wood (live plants) and metal (actual metal products). The other products
like three legged frog, laughing Buddha etc are all auspicious symbols
and remedial products.
